Event Details
Girl Scouts of Western Washington and Shelton Timberland Library are bringing a new early literacy opportunity to Shelton for children with learning disabilities. Lost in a Book is a Saturday morning book club geared toward children ages 5–12. Participants will join Girl Scouts Ambassador and Gold Award candidate Megan Kelley, a high school senior with a lifelong interest in reading and working with differently abled youth. Ms. Kelley uses engaging teaching and facilitation strategies, games, activities, and snacks to help with reading comprehension and fine motor skills. Her goal is to transform participants' perspective of reading from something that we see as holding us back, into something that we're excited about and enjoy doing on our own!
Participants should be about 6 to 12 years old. Lost in a Book takes place at 11am, downstairs at the library, on the first and last Saturdays of March, April, May, and June. All participants receive a free copy of the month's reading.
